Finishing For The Finicky

Good finishing requires patience and attention to detail. Commercial knitting patterns are often sadly lacking in detailed instructions for finishing and your beautifully knit pieces can end up ratty looking if the finishing work isn't done properly. If you’ve experienced this problem, or are simply ready to take your finishing skills to the next level, this class is for you!

Susanna will present her four Golden Rules that may just change how you look at and approach finishing. We will go over these rules in detail so that when you get home you can put them into practice immediately. In addition to the golden rules, we will discuss many other elements of good finishing; work on techniques crucial to good finishing; and learn some exciting tricks along the way. You will receive thorough, hands-on instruction for many essential finishing techniques including:

  • Mattress stitch seaming
  • Shoulder shaping with shortrows
  • Creating neckbands for pullovers and front bands for cardigans
  • Buttonholes

Susanna will provide a comprehensive handout together with an annotated bibliography that will help you select the best books on finishing for your knitting library. We find that this is the next best thing to having Susanna knitting with you in your own home every evening!

After you have registered for class you will receive a supply list and homework assignment. If you register in the shop you will receive it at that time; if you register online we will email you a copy so please be sure to include a current email address. And don’t forget that you will receive a 10% student discount when you shop for your class materials.

Please Note! This workshop is being offered as a special 2-session series for Acorn Street. Normally taught in one day, Susanna will be joining us for a special follow-up session one week later, available only to registered students. This follow-up session will be your opportunity to ask questions and get more help after having had a week to absorb and practice the brilliant techniques that you will learn from this master of finishing!
