Knit Fix



Every knitter makes mistakes from time to time. In this class you will learn to identify, avoid, and fix common knitting errors. We will even make knitting errors on our swatches on purpose! With a bit of practice you will feel empowered to take charge of your knitting and gain the confidence to handle many common mishaps when they arise.

During this 3-hour class we will work on the following:
  • Understanding the anatomy of our stitches
  • Understanding the anatomy of our knitted fabric
  • Identifying common knitting errors
  • Fixing common knitting errors by tinking ,frogging, laddering down
  • Deciding to leave or disguise an error
  • Knitting practices to help avoid errors

Materials

  • Approximately 75 yards worsted weight yarn with smooth texture in a light color
  • US # 7 (4.5 mm) or US #8 (5.0 mm) needles (circular or straight)
  • Susan Bates Handi Tool
  • Cocoknits Stitch Fixer
  • A few locking stitch markers
  • Tapestry needle

Homework

  • Swatch 1: Cast on 24 stitches. Work 20 rows of garter stitch fabric (knit every row). Do not bind off. Leave stitches on needle or place on a stitch holder or scrap yarn.
  • Swatch 2: Cast on 24 stitches. Work 20 rows of stockinette stitch fabric (knit one row, purl one row, repeat). Do not bind off. Leave stitches on needle or place on a stitch holder or scrap yarn.
  • Swatch 3: Cast on 24 stitches. Work 20 rows of 1 x 1 ribbing (knit 1, purl 1; repeat) taking care to knit above the knits and purl above the purls on each row. Do not bind off. Leave stitches on needle or place on a stitch holder or scrap yarn.
Age minimum - Sixteen years of age
Class minimum - 3 students
If the class minimum is not met, students will be notified prior to the class start date and a full refund will be given.
