Cut Your Knits

Cutting your knits can be a little intimidating but, also very empowering.  In this class we will learn how to secure a steek with a crochet chain before cutting it.  As a little bonus we will create two kinds of afterthought pockets by cutting a strand at the desired location.  You will be the boss of your stitches!

Skills Required:
  • Beginner/Intermediate
  • Can knit and purl
Materials:
  • Left overs of any 100% NON-superwash yarn.  A yarn that is a little sticky and hard to unravel would be best, this is very important.  Smooth yarns such as superwash wools would escape the crochet chain.  Two differnet colors would be great.  Cascade 220 or Shetland Lite would be perfect.
  • Needles to knit your yarn at a gauge that is a little tight.  This is also very important as loose fabric could unravel.
  • A crochet hook that is the right size for you yarn.
  • Sharp scissors
Homework:
  • With non superwash worsted or DK weight wool, cast on 80 stitches, join to work in the round. Knit for 4 inches, bind off. Blocking the swatch is not necessary but will make it easier to work with. Your gauge should be tight.
