The Stacktangle Scarf - Beyond the Granny Squares!

This class is a three-session relaxed-pace adventure learning the advanced beginner/intermediate crochet techniques for Xandy Peters and Patrick Stewart's Stackable Scarf.  Xandy is known for innovative approaches to knitting that break convention and stretch our thinking about the craft.  In the Stacktangle Scarf, Xandy shows what happens when a granny square decides to think outside the box and go zig-zag.

Because this scarf is worked lengthwise, the class will focus on a two-repeat swatch to learn and and practice all of the techniques.  Students who complete the practice during the session can cast-on for the full project to apply what they've learned, so everyone can proceed at their own pace.

Skill requirements - Students should have some crochet experience.  We will briefly review basics like base chain, double crochet and slip stitches, but the class is not meant for brand-new beginners.

Materials to Purchase:

  • Copy of Stacktangle Scarf by Xandy Peters
  • For the swatch : Scrap yarn in three colors of worsted weight wool
  • Size I (5.5 mm) Hook
  • Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
  • Scissors
  • Card board for making fringe
NOTES:
  • Students will have some time to shop for yarn toward the end of the first class if you have not decided before hand.
  • I loved making a smaller-scale version of this scarf in fingering with a size D (3.25 mm) hook, so you can consider that option as well.
