Introduction to Portuguese Knitting
Do you want to become a more efficient knitter? Are you seeking an alternative knitting style to improve your ergonomics and reduce hand and wrist pain? Portuguese knitting may be the solution you need! Portuguese knitting is a technique that people love for its speed, efficiency, and easy tensioning (it may make you fall in love with purling, too!). In this 2.5-hour workshop, you will learn the basics of Portuguese knitting and how to incorporate it into your knitting practice.
In this class, we will cover:
- The Portuguese knit and purl stitches
- Tensioning your yarn around your neck or with a knitting pin
- Ergonomics of Portuguese knitting
- Considerations for integrating Portuguese knitting into your upcoming projects.
- Different applications for your new skill!
Skill Requirements – Know how to cast on. Know how to knit and purl.
Materials List –
- A Portuguese knitting pin (Acorn sells these in 2-packs)
- Approximately 75 yards of worsted-weight yarn, preferably in a light color without heavy variegation
- Size US 8 (5 mm) needles, circular or straight is fine

| Instructor Bio: | Cami was born and raised in Southern California, and has called Seattle home since 2017. Her grandma taught her how to knit when she was 7, but finally called herself a knitter in 2020 when the pandemic started and she picked it back up. She dove head-first into the fiber arts since then, and now spins, weaves, processes fleece, and dabbles in dyeing. Her other hobbies include oil painting, drawing, and cooking. |
